5. 초록

Since its foundation in 2000, Cambodian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), a semi-autonomous research institute that has an equivalent status as government department, has been focused on applying technology to impact poverty alleviation, food security, and standard of living.

CARDI owns a plot of land exclusively for research that was specially selected to be typical of Cambodia’s dominant rice ecosystem (rain-fed lowland). It also has provincial research stations throughout the country. This experience with a variety of land types will be useful since our project is looking at spatially variable conditions over a pilot province.

Approximately 85% of agricultural fields in Cambodia are rice paddy and it is a staple crop for the region. CARDI was involved in a major 12-year project with the international Rice Research Institute that focused on improving local rice production and CARDI expects to learn from the institute’s invaluable experience and expertise to develop crop models.
