APEC Climate Center (APCC) launched the 2015 Pacific Islands Young Scientist Support Program (YSSP) on October 19, 2015. APCC invited 8 Pacific Island climate scientists and meteorological department researchers from 7 countries to their headquarters in Haeundae, Busan. APCC will provide them climate-related research and education opportunities.
Throughout this program, the APEC Climate Center will create an environment for participants to research in the Center. Also, APCC will provide education and trainings related to advanced climate prediction techniques, climate information application methods, and etc. These will be provided to the young climate scientists and meteorological department’s researchers from the Pacific Islands, which lack climate research capacity and climate prediction technique, until December 18, 2015 for 2 months.
By helping the Pacific Islands’climate professionals strengthen their climate prediction and analysis capacities, APCC will support these countries to be well prepared for future disasters caused by climate change, and to have the ability to handle the aftereffects of future disasters.
