APEC Climate Center (APCC) held the “2015 APCC CLIK (CLimate Information toolKit) Training Workshop for Customized Online Climate Prediction”from October 6 to October 8 at PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Services Administration) Education Room in the Philippines.
This training workshop was held to enhance the climate prediction and analysis capabilities of the professional workforce in the climate prediction field in Southeast Asian APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) member economies. It is also expected to improve the APEC member economies’abilities to respond to climate change.
In this training workshop, 15 working officials and researchers from 3 APEC Southeast Asia member economies’meteorological offices, had the opportunity to listen to lectures directly from APEC Climate Center researchers on the seasonal (medium and long range) climate prediction technique utilizing CLIK (CLimate Information toolKit).
For reference, in 2008, APCC developed CLIK (CLimate Information toolKit, http://clik.apcc21.org), an online climate prediction information system, to provide customized Climate Prediction Information services. CLIK is an online system that provides climate prediction information in the Asia-Pacific region, when customers are able to connect to the internet.
For reference, APCC has launched a new version of CLIK (CLIK 3.0) and has improved CLIK’s climate information processing speed.
APCC will start to test an offline CLIK that can be used without internet connection for those developing country users that may have poor online conditions.
By developing an offline CLIK, APCC will support developing countries that lack infrastructure for climate prediction and analysis, to efficiently deal with disasters exacerbated by climate change.
You can see the introduction and other related video clips on CLIK in the APEC Climate Center homepage (http://www.apcc21.org/eng/media/eapcc/japcc0601_pop.jsp?id=22).
