The APEC Climate Center (APCC) held the virtual APCC Working Group Meeting 2026 on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with climate prediction practitioners from the meteorological agencies of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies.

This meeting was organized to share the current status of El Niño and to discuss strategies for enhancing climate prediction services.  The meeting was attended by working group members responsible for climate prediction and services from the meteorological agencies of 10 APEC member economies. The participating economies 

included Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

During the working group meeting, officials from the meteorological agencies of the APEC member economies gathered to review the latest developments in APCC's climate prediction technology. Attendees examined regional El Niño forecasts and their corresponding response cases.

They also exchanged practical feedback on how the monthly climate prediction information provided by APCC is currently being utilized in the field. Furthermore, participants engaged in focused discussions on improving climate information services tailored to the specific circumstances of each member economy and exploring potential collaboration.  

The APCC Working Group is an organization composed of the practical users of the climate information services provided by APCC. Through these regular annual meetings, the center aims to gather feedback on user satisfaction and suggestions for improvement, which are then used to continuously advance and refine its climate prediction technologies.
