The APEC Climate Center hosted ‘Career Path Program’ for students from Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Pusan National University (PNU), on 3rd of May, 2013. Fifty-three students of sophomores, juniors and seniors visited APCC headquarters to explore careers in the field of climate science and its applications.
During the first session of the program, Ms. Sangwon Moon from the External Affairs Department introduced APCC’s missions, history, major researches, and services. Following this, Dr. Il-Won Jung, a Team Leader of the Climate Change Research Team, presented on “APCC’s Climate Information and Its Application”. During his talk, he explained the trend of increasing demands on climate information in the world and more appetite of users. He also delivered that how APCC produces monthly climate information and utilizes it for application research. During the second session, the visitors are divided into 3 groups - Climate Prediction Research, Climate Analysis Research, and Climate Change Research - according to their interest and talked with APCC researchers of each area to explore their career in the future. The researchers advised students with their own experiences on academic life and researches.
The students commented that the program was a valuable opportunity to map out their career path. The APEC Climate Center will expand the program to contribute the local community by sharing and transferring knowledge and experience of APCC.
