A research team at the APEC Climate Center (APCC) has discovered that the atmospheric pathways connecting October snowfall in Eurasia to winter temperatures in East Asia are not set in stone. Instead, these invisible bridges in the atmosphere evolve and reorganize from decade to decade.

The study also proves a key insight for seasonal forecasting: predicting East Asia's winter temperatures depends much more on the spatial pattern of the snow—specifically where and how it piles up—rather than the sheer volume of snow across the entire Eurasian continent.

Authored by APCC researchers Dr. OkYeon Kim (first author) and Dr. Suyeon Moon (co-author), these findings were published in the renowned international journal npj Climate and Atmospheric Science.
