APCC & UNEP Co-hosted the Joint Regional Training Workshop on Strengthening Climate Information Services and MHEWS for Anticipatory Action from Prediction to Early Action

The APEC Climate Center (APCC) and The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) co-hosted 'the Joint Regional Training Workshop on Strengthening Climate Information Services and Multi-hazard Early Warining System (MHEWS) for Anticipatory Action from Prediction to Early Action (hereafter the Joint Regional Training Workshop) ' between 4th and 8th December, 2023. 5 Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Pacific are the Cook Islands, Niue, Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) and Tuvalu.
The Joint Regional Training Workshop This user-training workshop was held as part of the transformative programme, “Enhancing Climate Information and Knowledge Services for resilience in 5 island countries of the Pacific Ocean”, initiated by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). APCC is participating in this programme as a technical partner.
During this joint regional training workshop, APCC researchers conducted the lectures on climate prediction and implemented training programs on the utilization of the Pacific Island Countries Advanced Seasonal Outlook (PICASO) system as well as the production methods of seasonal outlook.
By so doing, APCC and UNEP promote to upgrade the enhancement of the climate prediction and climate information utilization capabilities of the meteorological offices of the five Pacific island countries. It is expected to enhance the resilience capacity of these regions against climate change.
