미국 Woods Hole Oceanographyic institution 서효대 박사가 오는 9월 13일 APEC 기후센터(APCC)를 방문한다. 서효대 박사는 “Ocean Mesoscale Eddies, Air-Sea Interactions and Regional Climate: Regional Coupled Climate Modeling”라는 제목으로 오전 11시 APCC 2층에 위치한 국제회의실에서 세미나를 주재한다.

5. Abstract
There is mounting evidence that coherent space-time variability exists between the ocean and the atmosphere on oceanic mesoscale of 10-1000 km. This eddy-mediated “mesoscale air-sea coupling” potentially influences the low-frequency climate variability, the effect of which remains poorly understood from the most IPCC-class models. Using a regional coupled model that does resolve the details of this important process, I will discuss dynamics of mesoscale coupled ocean-atmosphere interactions in the tropics, and also demonstrate similar mechanisms to be applied to the mid-latitude and to even ice-covered high-latitude oceans. I will also explore, from coupled dynamic downscaling experiment of an ensemble climate change of the tropical Atlantic, how these mesoscale eddies and ocean dynamics might play a role in shaping regional pattern of the projected SST warming.
