The APEC Climate Center (Director: Chin-Seung Chung, APCC) held a celebratory event for its 10th Anniversary and invited guests and APCC staff to join in the celebration. The event was held on November 20, 2015 at the APCC headquarters located in Busan, Korea.
The APEC Climate Center was established by the Korean government with the warm unanimous endorsement and welcome of APEC senior officials and leaders at the first APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) in Seoul, Korea. Since 2005, APCC has been providing reliable climate prediction information to the Asia-Pacific region. In this manner, APCC became the hub of climate information in the Asia-Pacific region, supporting each country in their efforts to prepare for abnormal climate events (drought, flood, etc.)
During the event, APCC reflected on its history and major achievements since its establishment in 2005. APCC also shared its future vision for the organization, which served to encourage and inspire the APCC staff to help drive the APEC Climate Center to be a world renowned professional center for climate information & policy.
Dr. Chin-Seung Chung delivered a welcome speech to begin the celebrations before congratulatory speeches from: Dr. Sungkyun Kim, a director of the climate science bureau in Korea Meteorological Administration; Dr. Myoung-Seok Suh, a chairman of APEC Climate center’s board of trustees; and Professor Jung-Bae Ahn, a president of the society from Korean Meteorological society. After these speeches, events guests watched a video on APCC’s 10 year history and a presentation on APCC’s main research and project results. APCC also recognized and awarded four staff members that have been employed at APCC for 10 years, since its establishment.
There was also a video that showed congratulatory messages from the Executive Directors from various partner organizations that either contributed to the establishment of APCC, or participated in APCC projects (APEC Secretariat in Singapore, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Peru National Service for Meteorology and other organizations).
