2018 APEC Climate Center S2S Training Program
- The APEC Climate Center (APCC) is hosting a training program with the title APCC in the Forefront of S2S Forecast: Leading the way in the fight against extreme phenomena from July 23rd to July 28th to be held in Busan, Korea and is now accepting applications until Friday 4th May, 2018 KST. The 1-week training program aims improve participants’ forecast skills by increasing their understanding of atmospheric phenomena in an S2S (Subseasonal-to-Seasonal) timescale, which often result in extreme events. The training will aid the participants on developing new strategies to reduce risks of natural disasters in developing countries, which are especially vulnerable to extreme events, in climate-related application fields such as water resources, agriculture, and disaster management.
- The program will be taught by a highly qualified and diverse team of scientists and will consist of theoretical and practical components. Participants who successfully complete the training program will receive a certificate of completion. The airfare, accommodation and meals will be supported by APCC.
- Located in Busan, South Korea, APCC aims to realize the APEC vision of regional prosperity by providing climate information services and technical support for better regional planning and reduction of economic losses caused by adverse climate conditions. APCC produces real-time operational climate prediction information from the S2S timescale with contributions from over 17 institutions in the APEC region. APCC's skills in seasonal forecast and S2S forecast based on the collection of this data have been acknowledged to be of a field-leading level. Based on this progress by APCC, the training program aims to emphasize the importance of utilizing S2S forecasts, especially concerning extreme atmospheric phenomena and natural disasters.
