The APEC Climate Center (APCC) hosted the kickoff meeting for the second year of the project entitled "Developing a Global Seasonal Crop Forecast Information Service based on Climate Information and Technology" with the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) on May 30, 2018 at the APCC Headquarters in Haeundae, Busan.

APCC and NARO is conducting the project entitled ‘Global Seasonal Crop Yield Forecast : A Climate Information Service for Food Agencies“ between April, 2017 and March, 2021. The meeting was held to discuss the issues occurred during the 1st year project, and start the 2nd year project.

This project will develop a new global crop forecasting system, which is a combination of statistical crop yield models from NARO and multi-model ensemble hindcast seasonal climate data (3-months average temperature and precipitation) from APCC.

This project is expected to improve the global agricultural monitoring system by launching a global seasonal crop forecast information service. It will lead to the development of a seasonal-climate-forecast-based global forecasting system of crop yield variability and crop forecast information services for world food agencies.
