Dr. Ok-Yeon Kim from the Climate Change Research Team of the APEC Climate Center (APCC) contributed her paper entitled “How do weather characteristics change in a warming climate?” to the ‘Climate Dynamics’ which is a notable journal in the field of climate science. This study projects the daily weather variability such as temperature, precipitation, and wind speed of future climate (2030-2056 and 2073-2099).

The study was started from the idea that the change in the features of future weather conditions should be considered as importantly as the mean conditions of climate change, because the increasing risk of extremes is related to the weather variability on daily time scales.

The study suggests a possible change in the characteristics of weather (day-to-day) under future climate conditions as follows. In most cases, the climatological

mean interdiurnal (day to day) variability (MIDV) of minimum and maximum temperature over high latitudes during the cold season is remarkably reduced and MIDV of the wind speed over the same region during the spring ....
